Just a friendly reminder that Cyber Safety should ALWAYS be a priority! According to Wikipedia, “phishing is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.” You faithful Info@WPL readers probably remember my post earlier this year, Email Scams. I posted an example of one the phishing scams I have received in my email.
If you are unsure of how to recognize a phishing scam, check out FAQ: Recognizing Phishing Scams from CNET News and Microsoft’s How to Recognize Phishing Emails or Links. Another great source for online safety information is the National Cyber Security Alliance. If you receive an email from someone claiming to be the IRS, check out How to Report and Identify Phishing, E-mail Scams and Bogus IRS Web Sites.
Scammers often target social networking sites, like Facebook. To keep yourself safe on Facebook, become a fan of Facebook Security to receive security information in your News Feed.
