Flannery O’Connor’s devastating short story, Everything That Rises Must Converge gets the Great Books season rolling on September 9th. Every second Wednesday at 7:30pm, September-June, Great Books discussions are kindled by selections from the finest and most influential works of world literature. Works scheduled for 2009-10 range from ancient (Euripides) to modern (Simone de Beauvoir) and include plays, poetry, short stories, philosophy, social criticism, and more. Sometimes it’s difficult to choose a book to read. Sometimes we just don’t have time to browse the shelves in our favorite section of the library. Fortunately, Wheaton Public Library has a great service to solve just that problem. It’s called an Online Book Club and it’s free to join. Each weekday, you will be emailed a five-minute selection from a book. By Friday, you will have read at least two chapters! That should be enough to decide if it’s something you want to read or not, right? The next Monday, you’ll get a new book to start. You can decide what type of books you want to get. The choices are: Fiction, Nonfiction, Teen, Business, Romance, Good News, Science Fiction, Mystery, Horror, Audio, and Pre-publication. All you need is an email address and a few minutes of spare time. So don’t stress about taking time to pick a book to read, have them sent right to your email!
