Friends Book Sale – This Weekend!

Posted by eileen on September 24, 2009

Last year we estimated we had more than 30,000 books in the book sale!  Buyers found like-new fiction and nonfiction bestsellers, tons of romance paperbacks, trade paperbacks perfect for book clubs, unique travel books, beautiful children’s books, great gift items, books in foreign languages, and lots of treasures from the past.  Our biggest category of nonfiction was probably history, but we had books in the sciences, cookbooks, religious books, art books, numerous self-help titles, parenting advice, business books, law books, and reference books.  In addition we had tables full of videos, and bins full of LPs and CDs.  Come and see what this year brings!
The complete rules for the sale are posted on our website and available at the reference desk.  NO book scanners of any kind are allowed.  That includes laptops, cell phones, Blackberries, etc.  Because of the tight aisles we cannot allow strollers or book carts in the sale.

Learn to Use eBay at WPL

Posted by eileen on August 6, 2008

The Wheaton Public Library offers free computer classes every month. Every few months, we offer two classes dedicated specifically to learning eBay. What is eBay? It’s a website where you can buy or sell just about anything. It’s not as difficult as you would think.
Introduction to eBay:
Tuesday, August 19th from 10am to noon
The class covers: basic eBay terms, Paypal basics, the many individual parts of listings, an overview of the buying and selling processes, how to avoid scams, avoiding common eBay mistakes, and helpful hints.
Selling on eBay:
Tuesday, August 26th from 10am to noon
The class focuses on the selling side of eBay and includes: a rundown of the selling process from start to finish, a demonstration of uploading a digital photo to eBay, and a demonstration of actually listing a real item on eBay.
Visit our online event calendar or call 630-868-7505 for more information.
