Don’t have the time to spend perusing the book shelves for that perfect next read? Let the experts choose for you! Kids, tweens, teens, and adults can all enjoy the convenience of the library’s free NextReads service. Just subscribe online, and soon you’ll be receiving great reading lists delivered right to your email inbox!

Every newsletter comes with suggestions of recently released titles as well as recommendations of older books grouped by theme or author. For example, the Mystery newsletter has included readalikes for Marcia Muller and the thematic section of Armchair Travel has focused on Italy.

Because every newsletter includes links directly to the library’s catalog, you can be at home in your slippers or taking a lunch break at the office while placing holds on the books you want!

Do you love to read book reviews? Once upon a time the Chicago Tribune printed a book review section every Sunday. In recent years, book coverage shrunk to a measly couple of pages in the Saturday Trib. In February, with much fanfare, the Tribune launched Printer’s Row. It comes in two sections: Printer’s Row fiction is a slender paperback containing a brand new short story every week. Printer’s Row journal covers book news and reviews. In recent issues: young adult literature “not just for kids anymore,” Studs Terkel at 100, whether audiobooks are “cheating,” and Fifty Shades of Grey.

You won’t find Printer’s Row in your copy of the Sunday Trib — unless you forked over the $99 membership fee. But you can check out Printer’s Row at the library. Look for it on the Periodicals shelves on the second floor, where you will also find the New York Times Book Review, New York Review of Books, and the terrific literary reviews Granta and the Oxford American.
