The One and Only Ivan

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

Have you read The One and Only Ivan?  It is absolutely wonderful.  Heartbreaking, but wonderful.  I had the chance to hear the author, Katherine Applegate, talk about Ivan last year.

I was just thinking about the book yesterday when I found out that the real Ivan passed away earlier this week at the age of 50.

If you haven’t read it yet or you want to re-read Ivan, you can find the book at the library here.

Also, check out the book’s website to see the book trailer and to learn more at

The blog Watch. Connect. Read has a ton of great information about the book as well the world of Children’s Literature.

Our Farm: By the Animals of Farm Sanctuary by Maya Gottfried and paintings by Robert Rahway Zakanitch.  Learn all about Farm Sanctuary at

Authors, Authors, Authors

Monday, February 20th, 2012

This weekend I had the chance to hear from and talk to a number of children’s book authors (both local and from around the country) about some of their new and upcoming books!  Among them were Augusta Scattergood, Jane O’Connor (best known for Fancy Nancy), Katherine Applegate (her new book is The One and Only Ivan), David Small (his new book is One Cool Friend), Sarah Stewart, and Gordon Korman.  It was such a thrill!  If you haven’t had a chance to read the work these authors have done, I highly recommend it!  Look for their new titles soon!

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Well, I have finished the most recent Penderwicks book, The Penderwicks at Pointe Mouette!  I have loved getting to know the Penderwick sisters and, secretly, hope there are more adventures to come.

Have you visited Jeanne Birdsall’s website?  If you are a fan of Anne of Green Gables or E. Nesbit, you will love this website and all of the quotes she has chosen to include.  Get to know the woman behind the Penderwicks here.
