ALA Youth Media Awards

Monday, January 28th, 2013

The ALA Youth Media Awards were announced this morning!  It is always so exciting to see which books were chosen as the best of the best.  This award announcement is like the Oscars to Children and Young Adult Librarians!

One of my favorites from this past year, The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate, took the Newbery Award!  Also, a favorite picture book, Extra Yarn illustrated by Jon Klassen and written by Mac Barnett, took one of the Caldecott honors!

For a complete list of the winners, check out the ALA website here. Newberry Winner Caldecott Winner

I love the Olivia books!  You can imagine how happy I was when I happened upon Ian Falconer’s website devoted to Olivia the Piglet.  Learn all about the author (did you know he did costume designs for ballets?) and interact with Olivia through games and coloring pages!  Don’t forget to pick up your favorite Olivia book from the library!
